FRIENDS!
"Friends! How many of us have them? Friends! The ones you can depend on." Those are the famous words of the rap group Whodini.

I remember one of my first true friends. I'm still friends with him today but it's become a distant friendship where we talk maybe once or twice a year, if that. Back in the day we were hardcore friends. I met him when I was fifteen years old and I'm almost fifty now. He's a was Ghetto Bastard just like me. He was raised by an aunt that didn't want him.
We did everything together but through the course of our friendship there was a betrayal. Even though it was eventually forgiven somehow it didn't meet the above criteria anymore.
As I became older and married my childhood sweetheart, a woman I've also known since I was fifteen years old, I understand what a true friend is. It's someone that will love you for you and not for what you can do for them. It's someone that will build you up and tear you down, if its necessary.
When I look at the world around me, I realize that I've been with this woman for close to thirty five years. With all the people I've met, and socialized with, I still come to one conclusion: My wife is the only friend I have. I trust her with everything. She's the confidant to all my hidden emotions towards the outside world. She's my best friend. It's us against the world.
In this world of social media, people have thousands of friends and followers but I feel blessed to know that I have a true friend. Those of you that are lucky enough to have a friendship like that, that has stood the test of time and is still ongoing, hold on tight and don't let go. You're not getting any younger. Nobody else wants your old ass.
